Privacy Policy

NotiWeave uses Android’s Notification Access to read notifications, but only for the apps you explicitly enable in the Apps screen. Notifications from every other app are ignored. For enabled apps, it reads which app the notification came from, its title and text, the time it arrived, and which conversation it belongs to. Enough to group messages by sender and match your sound rules. Notifications from banking and finance apps are dropped the moment they arrive and are never stored.

Two optional features keep a notification’s app, title, text and timestamp in that same private database so you can read it in the Notifications panel: Group in one tray (Settings), which collects your notifications into a single group in the phone’s tray; and blocking an app, which logs what it hid so you can check what you missed. Entries stay until you remove them, and go when you clear the panel or clear captured data. Banking apps and Android system notifications are never collected this way.

For WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business chats you save, NotiWeave also keeps the media those messages carry, so it stays in the chat even if the sender later deletes it:

• Voice notes arrive inside the notification itself, and NotiWeave copies the recording into its private storage. This needs no extra permission.
• Original photos, videos, GIFs and documents are copied from WhatsApp’s own media folder, and only if you allow it. Android opens that one folder and you tap “Use this folder”; NotiWeave can read nothing outside it. You can switch this off for each app (Apps → WhatsApp → Save photos & videos), which hands the folder access back. Without it, a photo keeps only the smaller preview that came in the notification.

When WhatsApp withdraws a message it had already shown (deleted for everyone), NotiWeave marks the saved copy as deleted by the sender instead of removing it. It learns this only from the notification WhatsApp itself updates on your phone.

If you give a chat a notification name (Rename in notifications), NotiWeave replaces that app’s notification in your phone’s notification shade with its own copy under the name and photo you chose. The copy is made on your phone and goes nowhere else, and the saved chat keeps the real name.

Everything NotiWeave captures is stored in private storage on your phone that no other app can open. Your notification threads, messages, app selections, and sound rules stay there unless you back them up yourself. That includes the voice notes, photos, videos and documents it saves from chats. There is no NotiWeave cloud, no account, and nothing is synced to any other device, unless you turn on Connect to PC, which sends notifications only to your own paired computer over your Wi-Fi.

Save to phone copies a file into your phone’s gallery or Files, in a NotiWeave folder, only when you tap it. From there it is an ordinary file on your phone, which other apps can see.

Connect to PC pairs NotiWeave with NotiWeave for PC, a free browser extension for Chrome and Edge, so your phone’s notifications show up on your computer. This section is also the privacy policy for that extension. It stays off until you turn it on in Settings → Connect to PC.

What is sent, and where it goes

For each notification from an app you allow (under Apps to push, or every app with the All apps switch), NotiWeave sends the app name, the title and text, the sender or conversation, and the time. That is all a notification sends.

It goes straight from your phone to your paired computer over your local Wi-Fi network. It is not sent over the internet, there is no NotiWeave server and no account, and none of it is sent to us or to anyone else.

The link is end-to-end encrypted: the phone and the extension agree on a key with ECDH (P-256), and everything between them is encrypted with AES-256-GCM. Your phone only accepts browsers whose QR code it has scanned, and you can remove a pairing from either side at any time.

How the extension finds your phone

To know which network to search, the extension reads your computer’s own local IP address inside the browser. It then checks addresses on that local network for NotiWeave’s port (47654). That address is used only for this search and is not sent to us.

What the extension stores

The extension keeps a small amount of data, only in that browser’s local extension storage on your computer:

• its pairing key pair;
• the paired phone’s name, key and last local IP address;
• your settings, including the computer name you set, if any;
• your last 100 notifications, so you can scroll back through them.

The Clear button in the extension’s dashboard deletes the notification history. Removing the extension deletes all of it. It shows your notifications as desktop notifications through the browser.

What the phone stores

For each computer you pair, NotiWeave keeps its key, the name it gives itself (the extension’s computer name, or something like “Chrome on Mac”), any name you give it on the phone, when you paired it and when it last connected. This stays in the app’s private storage on your phone. Removing a pairing deletes it, and clearing the name you gave a computer goes back to its own name.

Clipboard sync

Clipboard sync is off until you turn it on, in the app and in the extension, and works only while Connect to PC is on. When it is on, text you copy on your computer is sent to your phone’s clipboard, and text you copy on your phone is sent to your computer, over the same encrypted local link. On your computer, the extension checks the clipboard about once a second while sync is on.

From phone to computer, sending is automatic only if you also switch on NotiWeave’s copy watcher, NotiWeave: send copies to PC, in Android’s Accessibility settings. It uses Android’s AccessibilityService API. It receives the labels of buttons you tap and the text of short pop-up messages, only to spot a Copy tap or a “Copied” message. Those are checked on the phone and then discarded: they are never stored, and never sent anywhere. Only the copied text is sent, and only to your paired computer. It cannot read the rest of your screen, and it does nothing unless a computer is connected. When it notices a copy, NotiWeave briefly opens an invisible screen to read the clipboard and send it. Without the copy watcher, use Share → Send to PC.

One-time codes in notifications get a Copy code button on your computer, and right-clicking a link or selected text gives you Send to phone.

The extension’s permissions, and why

• Notifications: to show your phone’s notifications on your computer.
• Storage: to keep the pairing, your settings and your notification history.
• Alarms: to reconnect to your phone from time to time.
• Offscreen: to read your computer’s local IP address so it can find your phone, and to run the clipboard watcher.
• Clipboard read and write: for clipboard sync.
• Context menus: for the right-click Send to phone item.

Neither the app nor the extension sends any of this to NotiWeave or to any server. It only ever travels between your own phone and your own computer.

This version of NotiWeave has no backup feature. It cannot create a backup and it cannot restore one, so nothing it captures is copied anywhere, not to a folder, not to Google Drive, not to us.

If you made a backup with an earlier version, that file is still wherever you put it. A copy in a folder you picked is still on your device, or wherever that folder lives. A copy in Google Drive sits in a hidden folder that only NotiWeave can open, so it is not visible in the Drive app: you can remove it from Google Drive’s own settings, under the app’s stored data.

The Sounds and Ringtones libraries list the tones built into NotiWeave alongside the ones already installed on your phone. Reading that list needs no permission and gives NotiWeave nothing but the tones’ names; the libraries give it no access to your music, media, or files. (The only media NotiWeave can reach is WhatsApp’s media folder, and only if you allow it, see Chat media above.)

Sounds are played on your device and are never uploaded anywhere.

NotiWeave keeps everything it captures in its own private area of storage, which Android walls off from every other app on your phone. Automatic system backups are turned off, so this data is never copied to the cloud or to another device behind your back. Because NotiWeave has no account with us and no server of ours, there is nothing on our side that could be intercepted or breached.

A backup file is scrambled rather than protected by a password you choose, so anyone who has both the file and NotiWeave can open it. Treat one like a copy of your messages.

NotiWeave shows no ads. There is no advertising SDK in the app at all, not a disabled one, not a dormant one. It is not in the download.

Because of that, NotiWeave asks Android for no advertising ID, and no ad network is ever sent anything about you, your device, or what you do in the app. There is no ad consent screen either, because there is nothing to consent to.

If that ever changes, this section will say so before it ships, and the “last updated” date at the top of this page will move.

NotiWeave does not sell or share your notification content, not to the developer, not to advertisers, not to anyone else. There is no NotiWeave server, and this version makes no upload of anything it captures at all, there is nowhere for it to go. Connect to PC, if you turn it on, sends notifications to your own paired computer on your Wi-Fi, not to us. Your messages are never used to target advertising, and nothing in the app tracks what you do or reports it back to us.

• Notification Access: required to read notifications from the apps you choose. This is the core function of the app.
• Ignore battery optimisations (optional): lets NotiWeave ask you, with a single tap, to keep running in the background so Android doesn’t put it to sleep and stop it receiving your notifications. You can decline, and change it later in Android’s battery settings.
• Notifications: lets NotiWeave post its own notification. That is what the optional Group in one tray setting uses to show your notifications as a single grouped entry, and what shows a renamed chat under the name you chose. Asked for only when you turn one of those on.
• Storage (Android 9 and older only): used only when you tap Save to phone, to put that file in your gallery. Newer Android versions need no permission for this, so it is never asked for there.
• Folder access to WhatsApp’s media (optional, and not a permission): when you allow saving photos and videos, Android’s own folder screen hands NotiWeave that one folder. It can read nothing else, and switching the option off hands it back.
• Vibrate: a light tap you can feel when you pull a list down far enough to refresh it.
• Fingerprint / face unlock (optional): used only if you already have App Lock set up from an earlier version. Android performs the check itself and tells NotiWeave nothing but yes or no; the app never sees your fingerprint or face.
• Internet: declared, but unused in this version: there is no backup to upload or restore, no advertising, and no NotiWeave server to contact. Nothing it captures leaves your phone, unless you turn on Connect to PC: its link to your own paired computer runs over your Wi-Fi using this permission, and reaches nothing else.
• Connect to PC (optional): a wake lock keeps your phone’s Wi-Fi awake while the link is on, so notifications reach your computer promptly. Scanning the pairing QR code uses Google Play services’ code scanner, so NotiWeave itself gets no camera permission. The copy watcher described under Connect to PC is an Accessibility service you switch on yourself in Android’s settings.

That is the complete list. NotiWeave requests no permission for location, contacts, camera, microphone, or media, and none for storage on Android 10 and newer. And none for the advertising ID.

You choose which apps are monitored and can change that at any time, and grouping into one tray is off unless you turn it on. You can delete individual notifications, or all of them, from the Notifications panel, and everything captured at once from Settings → Clear captured data. Revoking Notification Access in your system settings stops all capture immediately. Saving WhatsApp photos and videos stays off until you allow it and can be switched off for each app; Settings → Storage shows how much space saved media takes and deletes it by age or by chat (the messages themselves stay). A chat’s notification name can be removed at any time. Connect to PC stays off until you turn it on, sends only the apps you pick, and a pairing can be renamed or removed from the phone or the computer at any time. Uninstalling the app removes everything it stored on the device; backup files made by an earlier version are kept until you delete them.

NotiWeave is not directed at children and is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Notification content is processed on the user’s own device and is never sent to us. This version of NotiWeave has no backup feature, so nothing it captures leaves the device at all. Connect to PC, if the user turns it on, sends notifications only to their own paired computer over their Wi-Fi.
